At Silk Therapeutics, we recognize that Botox® is sometimes part of our customers anti-aging routine. We want to give you a little insight into the use of this anti-aging injectable to help you make an educated decision for yourself.
Botox is known to remove wrinkles by temporarily paralyzing the facial muscles. It’s a drug made from a toxin produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. You may have heard that it’s the same as botulism in food products, but the two just share a base. It sounds scary, but in reality, it’s been proven to be safe and effective when used for cosmetic purposes.
Interestingly enough, in addition to temporary cosmetic benefits, Botox is also being used to help with some medical maladies as well. Per the Mayo Clinic, Botox injections are used to treat problems such as repetitive neck spasms, excessive sweating, and overactive bladder. It’s also been used recently as a treatment for migraines.
To be clear, we are not advocating for our customers to seek injections, but those considering or using Botox should know how it works and how it fits in to an anti-aging routine. If you are considering Botox, we encourage you to speak with your doctor about its use, the potential side effects, how long the results are expected to last, and how Botox might benefit you.
