Tips to Tighten Your Pores

There are plenty of old wives tales about how to make your pores smaller – the first of which is usually splash cold water on your face. Unfortunately, the size of our pores is largely determined by genetics, but there are ways we can make them appear smaller for flawless, ageless skin.

Our pores are the openings of hair follicles. In each of our pores are the glands that release oil onto our skin. The key to keeping pores looking their smallest is to keep them clean and clear. When makeup or dirt gets caught in your pores, it stretches them out, leading to pimples.

We’ve often heralded the importance of cleansing and exfoliation, but this goes doubly so for reducing the appearance of pores. By washing your face more often with a gentle cleanser, you can help reduce the amount of dirt that gets in your pores. Moreover, exfoliation will help to remove any dead skin cells on the surface of your skin. Exfoliate a few times a week, but keep an eye on how your skin reacts. If you find your skin getting red or irritated, reduce your regimen and consult with your dermatologist.

Another element for airbrushed skin is to avoid any chemicals that might irritate your pores. Harsh chemicals often found in moisturizers and other skincare products can make pores seem larger – one more reason to use truly clean product. You can also introduce a hydrating serum to keep pores at bay.

In addition, collagen keeps your pores looking their best. Because collagen provides the elasticity and strength of your skin, it also works to keep pores tight. Accordingly, any product that increases collagen production will also help to maximize porcelain skin.

Though we may not be able to actually reduce the size of pores, if you’re looking for ageless skin, be sure to keep your tight pores at the top of mind.
