The name probably gave us away, but silk is the basis of everything that we do at Silk Therapeutics.  It’s the foundation for all of our products and it’s what’s makes us different from everyone else.  So we thought, what better way to kick off our blog than by explaining what silk is and how we use it?

When you think of silk, you probably think about luxurious fabrics.  In fact, it’s the oldest material in written record and has long history as being recognized for its feel and utility against the skin.  But in it’s most basic form, silk is simply thread.  Until today, silk has been used as a building block for fabric or as a biomaterial in the medical community.  However, our team has been able to transform real silk into liquid form.  And that’s how Silk Therapeutics was born.

Plenty of skincare companies have made the claim that they’ve harnessed the power of silk, but in reality, they’re referring to silk derivatives or a genetically modified version of silk.  We use real, unadulterated silk – or as we call it, pure silk. There are no synthetics and we would never use any silk waste or byproduct; we’re dealing with just the silk protein.  The chemical processes that other companies use may make production quicker or cheaper, but in retaining the integrity of silk, we’re able to make skin extraordinary.

In its liquid form, pure silk delivers key ingredients like Vitamin C at higher and more effective doses, improving the look and feel of skin.  It eliminates the need for harsh chemicals or synthetic additives entirely. And what’s more, it enhances the look of skin while doing so.

We’ve learned that when you have pure silk, there’s not that much more that you need.  In each bottle of Silk Therapeutics product, you’ll find a short list of eight or less ingredients that you know and can pronounce.  Nothing else.
