Making Your Health a Year-Round Priority
Every October, store shelves are lined with hundreds of pink products. These are designed to remind us of the toll breast cancer has on society, to take preventative measures, and to raise money for critical research. Come November, however, as the pink products disappear, it’s important breast cancer remains top-of-mind, especially for women over 35.
For those unfamiliar with our story, our products were inspired by company co-founder, Dr. Rebecca Lacouture, who was diagnosed with ovarian cancer at the age of 27. Because of her experience, she sought to create a skincare line free of harsh, unnecessary chemicals that were gentle enough for those even undergoing chemotherapy. Today, a decade later, that vision has been brought to life with our Silk Therapeutics and LabGrab collections, designed for any skin type – even the most sensitive – and based on innovative, clean formulas with limited number of ingredients. So as you can see, we have a natural connection to the topic on everyone's mind this month, and wanted to share a brief message to you, our customers and friends.
This month and year-round, we ask that you serve as a guiding light not only for yourself, but also for a friend who might not be reading this email. Perhaps she needs a reminder to do a monthly self-exam, or to work with her doctor to screen for early signs of breast cancer. It’s vital to stay informed and empower ourselves, and to educate our daughters and our friends about the imperative of screening, and also, about working toward true or primary prevention—that is, keeping cancers at bay in the first place.
There are endless resources available, especially via the American Cancer Society, who offers early detection tips. On cancer prevention, we also recommend the resources published by the scientists at The Silent Spring Institute. Located just outside Boston, too, The Silent Spring Institute is a leader in studying the role of environmental factors in women’s health and offers you can take at home and in your communities so that we may all lead healthier lives.
On behalf of all of us at Silk Therapeutics, please support one another this October, and throughout the year.
