As a young girl, Lilly Naqvi imagined herself swiftly pacing through the corridors of a hospital, healing patients as an ER doctor. “A few years ago, I realized my passions were in engineering and working hands-on with devices,” Lilly says. “My path unfolded in a way where I found my true niche in engineering, while having exposure to the medical field in a completely different capacity.”
Lilly is one of our newest team members. She joined Silk Therapeutics this past spring after
graduating from Tufts University in May with a Master of Science in biomedical engineering. Now a Process Engineer on our team, she researches, tests and troubleshoots industrial-sized mechanical equipment in order to scale our production. Bubbling that down: she figures out how to create mass product in larger (and newer/shinier) machines than we’re used to.
For those not familiar, Silk Therapeutics formulates and packages all of our products on-site in our Medford, MA office. Over the past few months, production has rapidly grown as we look to exceed consumer demand and press the boundaries as it relates to not only silk technology, yet also, our manufacturing processes.
Lilly is in charge of our ever-growing fleet of machines, including our custom liquid silk processor, capable of increasing production by over 50 times the current rate! In this case, Lilly ensures the machines are functioning properly to prepare all of the pure, natural silk required to support our skincare line. Lilly also works on optimizing our skincare equipment and the chemical ingredients that go into making liquid silk along with our proprietary anti-aging products, so we leverage the best quality ingredients possible.
“It’s a significant amount of design work, some trial and error, and a bit of good luck,” Lilly shares. “You have to be creative across the board, and also, know when to step away. I’m constantly challenging myself and find that sometimes, it’s good to take a moment and reflect on my work. Sometimes solutions make their way to me at the most unexpected times. I practice patience, map my course and try my hardest to always remain organized.”
In addition, Lilly owns a massive responsibility within day to day manufacturing, helping to oversee and keep the production process on-track, so we may create and fulfill products for consumers, including spas.
Lilly adds, “I enjoy finding new ways to make our processes better, and learning more each day, knowing that I contributed to every piece of product that finds its ways into customers’ hands. Though not a doctor, I did end up in a white coat. Well, sometimes it’s purple, because here at Silk Therapeutics, we really like purple.”
We asked Lilly a few burning questions related to some of her favorite things like sports, hobbies and of course, her favorite Silk Therapeutics beauty product. Read on to learn more.
