Debunk Those Skincare Myths!

Debunk Those Skincare Myths!

November is National Healthy Skin Month, an ideal moment to reassess your skincare routine. As a company committed to health and wellness, we understand your need to make thoughtful decisions about how you care for and protect your skin. Whether you’re looking for clean products like Silk Therapeutics’ moisturizers and cleansers, in search of skincare tips and tricks, or just need help wading through all the skincare advice you’re given, we are here for you.

Have you met our Vice President of Professional Services and Education, Victoria Collotta? When not at Silk Therapeutics, she is a trusted esthetician and a spa owner. Her clients seek her tried-and-true skincare regimens, and look to her to sort through the well-meaning skincare advice received from friends and family.

Here are 4 common skincare myths and mistakes that Victoria regularly discusses with her clients:

  • Petroleum jelly is not a proper moisturizer. It doesn't hydrate the skin or heal a burn or cut. So, no more white glove overnight treatments for those hands!
  • Toothpaste will not make your zit go away. Pass on the paste-y stuff.
  • Hydrocortisone (if over-used) can make the skin more sensitive. So less is more.
  • Body scrubs such as salt or harsh nut shells/grains are meant for the body— never your face. Facial skin is very sensitive. Overdoing it can have the opposite effect. Ouch!

The American Academy of Dermatology offers further tips on skincare, skin safety and additional ways you can keep your body’s largest organ healthy. If you’re looking for new products, or want to clean up your beauty routine, visit our online skincare assistant. Just complete a simple quiz, and it will help you determine the best formulas for your skin, year-round. Why not take advantage of all your resources?
