Carpe Diem - Skincare in Your Twenties

So many of our younger customers ask us when they should start their anti-aging skincare regimen. And our answer is always the same – now! No matter what your age, it’s important to take care of your skin so you can reap the benefits down the line.

With that said, below are four simple preventative steps you can take today to help assure glowing, beautiful skin down the road.

Hydrate: Keeping your skin hydrated is a major component for keeping skin healthy, and this means more than just using a topical moisturizer. Keeping yourself hydrated on the inside will help keep your skin feeling fresh on the outside, so make sure you’re drinking enough water. How much is enough? Everyone is different, but a general guide is eight 8-ounce glasses per day.

Anti-Aging Products: It’s never too soon to start preventing the signs of aging skin, and therefore products advertised for anti-aging can be used to keep younger skin looking youthful, longer. When shopping for an anti-aging line, look for products with minimal ingredients – it’s a good indicator of how healthy and powerful a product is—the more ingredients, the more dilute each one is.

Limit Sun Exposure: You might love your sunkissed tan now, but you won’t love dealing with lines on your face in the future. Sun damage is one of the leading causes of pre-mature skin aging, and the best way to combat the problem is to be conscious of prolonged sun exposure and lather up with SPF. One of the easiest ways to incorporate sun protection into your life is to find a moisturizer with built-in SPF that’s gentle enough to use every day. Don’t forget to use it on your hands, ears, neck, and chest too!

Take care of breakouts: We like to think that we left our pimples and blemishes behind in high school, but the truth is many people experience breakouts throughout all stages of life. Know your skin—if you’re sensitive to fragrances, go with unscented products or products scented with essential oils. If you wear makeup, thoroughly cleanse your skin before bed. Most important, when breakouts do occur, try not to touch or pick at them. This can lead to scarring, which can be permanent.
