We talk a lot at Silk Therapeutics about transparency, and about expectations in the cosmetics industry. We know before and after photos are important, because consumers want to (and deserve to) know that the products they’re investing time and money in will actually work. When developing our strategy around before and after photos, one word kept coming up: authenticity. We wanted our photos and the results to be authentic. We know that, often times, companies alter their photos to enhance the effects of the product, and in turn deceive their consumers. Our goal is for our product users to know that our evidence is trustworthy and real.
In order to keep the results transparent and to deliver raw, unedited photos, we set up a standardized process to follow. We hired a professional, third party photographer to take the photos and crop to the areas we wanted to highlight. Lighting, body position, and facial expression were standardized across all of the shots. Oh, and the models? We invited friends, family, and community members to participate and use our products (no professional models here!)
We succeeded in ensuring that all of the photos we captured are undoctored and not retouched. Both the before and the after pictures are unedited, so the results are transparent and real.
Ultimately, transparency is one of the core values of our company. In creating clean skincare with pure ingredients and healthful intention, there is no place for deceit or fraud.
